The digital television (DTV) transition refers to the switch from analog to digital broadcast television.
The US Congress
had mandated that after February 17, 2009, full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog, and will continue broadcasting in digital only.
That has been changed to June 12, 2009.
If the full broadcasting stations want to, they may still shut off analog
Feb. 17, 11:59pm but must tell you. As of Feb. 18, 2009, Channel 29 is the only channel that has
discontinued
broadcasting analog signal. If you have a converter, now, who
cares. The digital signal is not only crystal clear, but more
colourful. So, even though Canadian TV stations will transition from analog to digital
broadcasting August of 2011, once you've seen the new picture on your old
tv, you'll wish Canada had followed it. Therefore, some consumers living along the U.S. borders currently watching
free analog television programming by antenna or rabbit ears, from US, Mexican and Canadian
stations will not be able to see both. We can tell you, the
digital broadcasts are quite superior when you do get them. To look
