Home Converters Questions The Signal Computers New TV FAQ

  1. Comments: I have a digimate .. do I need a converter box?  It is Rogers Cable ... The flat screen TV is called a Digimate.
    1. If you have cable. that's all you need.  The make of the tv doesn't matter.  So Roger's  takes care of all the conversions for you.  So have a good day.
  2. If I have an analg tv and a digital box will my tv still work?
    1. Yes
  3. We purchased a new tv we were told that it was ready to go.  Our cable company says we still need a converter box from them. Is this true? and why?
    1.
  4. If you have a new television but dont have cable or satelite, will you be able to pick up signals with antennae.
    1. The new television is obvious if it's digital & receiving Digital because all of a sudden you're receiving more than one channel per number; such as 2-1, 2-2, 7-1, 7-2, etc.  So if you're getting these extra channels, then you're set.  If not, then your tv isn't digital.  Antennas will receive digital & high def. but will not truly show the actual high def. without a high def. antenna.  So that is the quickest test.  Otherwise, read your tv manual if you kept it.  Hope that helps.
  5. We purchased a new tv we were told that it was ready to go.  Our cable company says we still need a converter box from them. Is this true? and why?
    1. Here's what the Cogeco website says;
      To receive HDTV service from Cogeco, you must have an HDTV-ready television set. In addition, you need an Advanced HD/DVR receiver.. The program that you are watching needs to be broadcast in an HDTV signal via an HD channel in order to truly experience HDTV.

      So, to get the very best picture possible, which is high definition, you need a hd receiver box.  To receive regular digital & analog tv signals, you're ok.
  6. Where can I buy a converter for computer in St.Catharines, Ontario ?
    1. If you're interested in your computer, if you have an analog tv tuner in your computer like we have, a converter will restrict you if you try to do any recording on your hard drive as the channel has to be changed by the converter, which messes up your software as it wants to be in control.  What we did, is buy a couple of digital tuners one internal & one USB.  They work better than our analog, especially the internal one.  It costs about the same or a little more than a converter, but it clearly will work better.  We sell both; converter & computer tuners.  We're in St. Ann's.  Hope that helps.
  7. HDTV is in the airwaves,have you heard of the indoor antenna called a Gert,it gets a five * rating by those who have tried it.The satelite and cable companies will not tell you that signal is in the airwaves because its their business.A friend of mine made an antena out of cloths hangers and plywood and got the HD signal.I have a Gert on order so can you give me any assurances before it arrives.......Thanks
    1. I have not heard of it & even looked on the Internet & basically found nothing.  Therefore I cannot offer any info.  This is a new technology we're learning as computers & consumer electronics are becoming so intertwined.  Sorry I can't be of anymore help
